The App
WiFi Hunt brings together the use of GPS, WiFi and social contribution to achieve its goal. That goal? To provide users with the ability to find wireless internet connections closest to them and allowing them to mark WiFi hotspots for others to see. Some of the key features of WiFi Hunt include:
- Automatic Rating System that updates the global database whenever a user passes an added hotspot
- Google Maps incorporation to allow for acurate navigation to and from hotspots
- Hotspot unlocking giving users the ability to share locked wireless connections with others
- Saftey and Security, all login details are hidden and encrypted with a 128-bit encryption.
Finding
To find your nearest hotspot simply load WiFi Hunt and tap the 'Find' button. WiFi Hunt will take your current GPS position and find the nearest wireless hotspots to you from its global database. By tapping on one of the hotspot icons on the map you can view the current rating for that hotspot. Ratings are based upon Up Time and Signal Strength. Tap the rating window to get directions on how to get to the hotspot. Upon arrival at the location tap the hotspot icon again, this time you will be able to select 'Connect' to connect you to the hotspot.
Tagging
To tag a hotspot you have found simply load WiFi Hunt and tap the 'Tag' button. WiFi Hunt will search the surrounding area for wireless internet connections that are not currently on our global database. You can choose to sort the returned results either alphabetically or by open/locked connections. Upon selecting an open connection, its details will be prefilled into the form. Alternatively, upon selecting a locked connection, you will need to enter the username and password details for the hotspot. After either type of connection you may then tap the 'Submit & Connect' button to begin connecting to the hotspot. Upon successful connection the location and hotspot data will be added to our global database. It is important to note that the login details for locked connections are not shown to other users and are encrypted with a 128-bit encryption algorithm for your security.
